The Ask

Create looks for a modernized play that combines modernized fashion, the time period of the 1600s, and the aesthetic of any iconic play. Use art and research skills to effectively illustrate accurate costumes for chosen play.

Progress

Using research guides like The Metropolitan Museum archives, WGSN, WWD, and more I found period-accurate photographs to accurately depict trends during the 1600s. I was also able to conduct research on fashion trends now to convey garments in modern times. Using my artistic abilities, I illustrated garments that included both past and present elements for a modernized play of Romeo and Juliet.

The Outcome

The finalized project presented a lot of red, black, and white. It represented the outpour of love that is set in Romeo and Juliet. I found great interest in this project as it allowed me to prepare trend research through two entirely different centuries of fashion. It opened up my mind about the world of forecasting. In the final project, you see a vast amount of research images for each garment and the given time periods. I am thankful for this project because it allowed me to strengthen my art and research skills for the future.
